How I Booked 2 El Al Roundtrip Tickets NYC-TLV For Just $403 W/ $500 To Spend On Travel & How You Can Do It Too Even Better!

Tickets to Israel has always been a hot topic and constant chatter about flights is a regular wherever you are.

What airlines and dates are the cheapest? Which airlines will actually take off? “I have a guy”, the “I have a guy who knows a guy”, what will be if I have to cancel or change dates etc.

We have been wanting to go for a while but I either seemed to always miss the deals or the dates just did not work for me between, life, work and so on.

I also did not want to just book on any airline as most don’t seem too reliable with their schedules lately and El Al seemed to be the most expensive.

Here is how I booked 2 roundtrip tickets for just $403.99 and received a $500 bonus to spend on Hotels/Cars and how you can too and receive a $600 travel credit (i only got $500).

Introduction:

Just a quick introduction before I explain how I booked for this amazing price and how you can do it too.

Qantas airlines is an airline partner with Elal airlines alongside many others which means if you have Qantas Airlines points – you can redeem points and book El Al airlines flights directly through their website and with your loyalty..

Prior to 08/04/2025 A flight from NYC to Tel Aviv on El Al costed 37.8K Qantas points in economy each way making roundtrip to cost 75.6k points + $106.99 in fees.

The points cost now has only gone up slightly to 43.5K Qantas points in economy each way making roundtrip to cost 87k points + $106.99 in fees (fees may vary slightly by flight)

In order to be able to transfer points to Qantas Airlines – you have to have the points. Capital One, Citi and American Express allow you to transfer points/miles to Qantas as a award partner,

How I Booked At This Amazing Offer:

A few months ago my wife and myself both applied for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, which was offering 75,000 miles (and still is for some – just better – $300 credit) and a $250 travel credit after spending $4,000 in 3 months. This card has a low yearly fee of just $95 but so worth it when you can maximize the value.

• The card offer is now at an ALL TIME HIGH and you can earn 75,000 miles and receive a $300 travel credit after spending $4000 in 3 months on the Capital One Venture Rewards Card.

We both got approved and after spending the required amount – we were left with 168,00 miles & a $500 credit to use towards travel. 75K miles x 2 from the welcome bonus and 8K miles x 2 from the required spend as the card earns 2 miles per dollar on every purchase making the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card an amazing credit card – not limited to travel.

• Just for reference – at putting value at 1 cent per mile, i paid $190 and received $2,180 in value at a minimum without maximizing transfers.

A big worry of mine prior to booking was the cost of changing or cancelling flights just in case plans change.

I was happily excited to learn that a change fee with Qantas airlines is just a 5k points penalty and a cancellation is only 10k points. Essentially, this makes a change or cancellation only cost about $50-$100.

I then transferred 151.2k miles from my Venture Rewards Card to Qantas Airlines and I booked our flights at 75.6k points + $106.99 in fees x2, making our total cost 151.2k miles and $213.98 for two roundtrip flights from NYC-TLV for prime dates in January. I still have yet to spend the $500 travel credit.

Now as award points cost went up slightly – your total should be 174k miles + $213.99 to book 2 roundtrip tickets (fees may be less).

My total costs broken down were $213.99 for fees from the flights and $190 in yearly fees from the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card – In total $403.99.

• I  paid the $213.99 fees with my Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card which gives me 3 points per dollar on travel, $300 Travel Credit, Travel protection, Trip Cancellation, Interruption Insurance and much more.

How You Can Do It Too:

If you do not have the points yet, you can apply for the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and earn 75,000 miles after spending $4,000 in 3 months with a yearly fee of $95. (There are many options of cards to choose from however this is how I booked and an amazing offer right now).

Then, once you receive your welcome bonus and have enough miles –

Create a free Qantas Airlines loyalty/frequent flyer account. You may need this to search for award flights

Transfer points to Qantas from within your Credit Card portal.

Once confirmed that your miles/points have transferred, go ahead, search and book your flights.

• Some dates are limited so be sure o check the dates before transferring your points.
• When booking roundtrip, if you are not able to see the return flight before your points have been transferred, search as 2 separate one way tickets.

If you already have points with Capital One, Citi or American Express you can transfer points at any time and book your flights.
